Our internationally celebrated folk music club has been meeting in our historic Wolfe Room every week for over 40 years. Although independently run, it proudly takes its name from the inn. The club presents leading names in folk and acoustic music from Britain, North America and beyond, alongside up-and-coming newer artists, and once a month holds an “open house” evening at which anyone can perform. It was voted Folk Club of the Year in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2009 and more recently was named Outstanding Yorkshire Music Club by the website Yorkshire Gig Guide.

The club meets every Thursday evening with doors opening at 7.45pm. You can find the current programme at www.blackswanfolkclub.org.uk/programme. The club also hosts larger concerts at the nearby National Centre for Early Music and runs an annual free festival on our premises called The City of York Folk Weekend. During this festival, held over the first full weekend in June each year, the entire Black Swan Inn is filled with music making, with a concert marquee in the car park and indoor events in several different rooms.
